2Co 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.(NKJV)

A sister friend of mine gave me this great testimony. She had taken a motorbike ride, covering a distance of less than half an hour, then she felt like her eyes were full of soil particles. When she reached home, she tried to wash her eyes with water, and then her problems started. She felt a lot of irritation in her eyes, like the outer eye membrane had been removed. From then she could hardly see. As a teacher she had hard time teaching, and whenever she preached, she would let people read passages for her. Her eyes could not look at any bright object or white object. One day, after a period of about two years, she heard a preacher teaching using the above verse. What came clear to her was that you have to stretch your hand and pull down strongholds that stand against you. She got the revelation and could not wait for the end of the program. She started firing prayers thus: ‘I pull down every stronghold that has stood against my sight in Jesus name. I cast down the rubble away in the name of Jesus’. She repeated this prayer vigorously for several minute, and every time she would say it she would stretch her hand and pull an invisible stronghold and cast away. After this episode she went to sleep, but before sleeping she was attracted to a piece of paper lying near her bed. She stretched her hand and picked it, and she realized to her amazement that she could read well. She went to her study table,  picked a hymn book and again, she could read the words. What a joy! She screamed in ecstatic joy for her miracle. She realized she did not need the spectacles she had been wearing for the period she was unwell. Since then, she has stopped using them. Praise be to the Lord.

What stronghold has stood against you? The bible commands you to pull it down. You are a breath away from your miracle. God bless you.

AWAKE AT MIDNIGHT/ PRAYING AT MIDNIGHT

Praying at midnight can be a time of great success to the prayers of a born again person. Which hour is midnight? This does not necessarily means exactly at 0000 hrs (though it can also mean so,), but that time of the night when a new day is being ushered in. this can range from some minutes before 0000hrs to 2:00 am. This time is crucial for a prayer warrior. I give credit to Elisha Goodman who has written extensively on this subject, (maybe you should have a look at his site). Consider the verses below:

Ex 11:4  And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:

Ex 12:29  And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. {dungeon: Heb. house of the pit}

Jg 16:3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron. {bar…: Heb. with the bar}

Ru 3:8 And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet. {turned: or, took hold on}

1Ki 3:20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

Job 34:20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand. {the mighty…: Heb. they shall take away the mighty}

Ps 119:62  At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

Mt 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

Mr 13:35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:

Lu 11:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

Ac 16:25  And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

From the above we can deduce the following:

  • God visits his people at such a time, as the gates of the new day are opening.
  • He comes to bring blessings to his people and destruction to his enemies. The enemy knows about this hour and so he will come to bring destruction.
  • If you fall asleep (1 Kings 3:20), the enemy will exchange your blessing at such a time, remember Jesus taught his disciples that the enemy comes to plant evil while they are sleeping.
  • It is a time to worship the Lord. It is a great sacrifice to worship the Lord at such a time, when your body demands sleep. This is the time David would wake up to praise the Lord
  • It is the time gates are opened for blessings and closed afterwards that you may not acces your blessings, like it happened to the maids. It is also the time to take control the gates of your enemies (Gen 24:60) as Samson did. You can lose great blessings at such a time.
  • Intense worship at such a time opens your prison gates, as it happened to Paul and Silas.

Arise o watchman; take note of your time of blessings and spiritual victory. The good thing about praying at such a time is that you are able to frustrate the plans of the enemy before he settles to plan evil concerning you in the new day. You can also speak blessing to your morning and your day. At such a time you also posses the gates of your blessings and appropriate them upon your life and the community you stand for.midnight

Setting the mind free in prayer

The mind is the most crucial part where spiritual battles are fought. Advanced Learners Dictionary defines the mind as the part of a person, usually considered to be the brain that they use to think and imagine things. A Christian needs to protect herself from the ‘fiery arrows’ from demonic spirits which continually shoot wicked arrows to ruin our lives. Paul says that we should put on the helmet of salvation. The helmets work is to secure the head, where the brains are. We need to stand with Scripture and use the weapons we have to conquer the enemy.

The scripture says;

1Pe 1:13Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ

2Ti 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Php 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Eph 4:23And be renewed in the spirit of your mind

Ro 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Eph 6:16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (KJV)

Signs of a mind that is under attack

  • Unable to carry out prayers/ difficult in prayers
  • Feeling sleepy at odd hours.
  • Mental sickness
  • Severe headaches/ unexplainable migraines
  • Mind blankness/short circuiting of the mind eg You become blank while making a presentation and can’t coordinate
  • Sudden unexplainable drop in performance
  • Not understanding or remembering anything you have learned
  • Inability to concentrate and read the bible
  • Frequent loss of consciousness
  • Feeling ‘things’ crawling or moving in your head
  • Dreaming when your mind is being attacked etc

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV)

 10 The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (MKJV)

So what does the devil do with your mind? His main idea is to do the above: Steal, kill and destroy.

He comes to imprison your mind, demonize your mind, release curses upon your mind, bewitch it, put yokes upon it, surround your mind with bands of wickedness, place evil covenants upon it, plant evil seeds upon your mind, put embargo’s, cause your mind to be averse to scripture, release poisonous arrows, pollute your mind, place padlocks upon your mind, put evil cages, do brain transfer, bring spiritual demotion, bring spiritual downgrading, bring spiritual blankness, bruise your mind, allow serpents and scorpions to terrorize your mind etc etc

Does this scare you? No it should not. We have mighty weapons at hand. God has given us great weapons which are always at our disposal

2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) {through God: or, to God}  (KJV)

 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, (MKJV)

You need to arise and be offensive to the enemy. Repent any sin in your life that might have opened a door to the enemy. You open the door through the five senses: though what you see, touch, feel, smell, hear & taste, and I must add, through your spirit. Have you allowed your spirit to be controlled by the devil, like being involved in Satanism at one time in life?

Secondly, ask the LORD to wash and cleanse you. Craft prayer bullets like the ones below to attack the enemy. Also put on the whole armor of God. This will put you in a defensive mode. You can choose to pray all the prayer bullets below or the ones you feel quickened by the Holy spirit to pray  for.

  • O Lord arise and take over the gates of my mind, in Jesus name
  • I take power and authority in Jesus name, and I destroy every weapon forged against my mind in Jesus name
  • I uproot every evil arrow and every evil seed planted in my mind in Jesus name
  • I wipe every satanic pollution & poison upon my mind in Jesus name
  • I destroy every satanic cage placed upon my mind, and I withdraw my mind from every satanic prison and coven in Jesus name
  • Power of God arise, and set my mind free from every satanic manipulation
  • I destroy all pots of manipulation operating against my mind in Jesus name
  •  I retrieve my mind back by Fire in Jesus name
  • I renounce and destroy every covenant that works against my mind, in the name of Jesus
  •  I have the mind of Christ. Every part of my mind that is not of Christ, die now in Jesus name
  • I cancel every word and every spell released upon my mind in Jesus name
  • I destroy all satanic embargo’s and bands of wickedness surrounding me in Jesus name
  • Every padlock upon my mind, I unlock you now in Jesus name
  • My mind, receive promotion and upgrading in Jesus name
  • I command every snake and scorpion operating against my mind to die in Jesus name
  • I break every satanic hand over my mind in Jesus name
  • Every evil anointing over my mind, melt away in Jesus name
  • O Lord, anoint my mind with the power of the Holy Ghost in Jesus name
  • Arise my mind and love the LORD

What should be our focus when praying?

Is it to seek God’s face or his hand? We need to seek his face first. If we do so, He will gladly extend His hand. ‘When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek’ (Ps27:8 KJV).

How do you lead prayer?

Is it by coming up with requests? Key principles of prayer are that it should:

  • Be scripture fed
  • Worship based
  • Spirit led

When we gather, the question should not be: Do we have requests? But rather ‘let’s open our Bibles’. Let the word of God shape our praying.

The ultimate purpose of prayer is the glory of God. One powerful approach is 4/4 pattern: Upwards, Down wards, Inwards and Outwards.

1. Upwards focus – ‘Our father who art in heaven …’Matt 6:9. Open the Bible, read the passage, ask what it tells us about God and his character. Interact with each other in these truths. Worship the Lord for who He is.

2. Downward focus. Yield to Him ‘Thy kingdom come’ v.10. Surrender. Ask the Holy spirit to control us. Align your heart with his. The spirit will at this moment give you the requests.

3. Inwards – Bring requests to God. ‘Give us this day …’ v. 11. Ask Him what you need.

4. Outward focus – Readiness. ‘And lead us not …’ v.13. Now prepare for battle. Stand with the sword of the spirit. Claim promises. End with the upward stroke – ‘For thine is the kingdom …’ v.13. Glorify God. End with worship.

MYTHS ABOUT PRAYER

This is an edited version of The power of praying together by Daniel Henderson.

  1. People in the church already know how to pray. You Must however, lead people in learning how to pray through exhortation and example. What moves the heart of God? Look at Jesus’ and Paul’s prayer model. Be passionate and teach people to pray.
  2. We do not need a culture of prayer to have a significant ministry. Effective ministry is not about what we do, but why, how and for whom. We need to spend time in God’s presence. We need to be Acts I leaders devoted continually in prayer.
  3. Private prayer is more important than corporate prayer. Both are essential. The greatest tool the devil can use would be that which would make Christians not to pray together. The early church prayed as one.
  4. Prayer ministry will grow without leadership. You cannot point the way, you must lead the way. The prayer level of the church or your group seldom rises above the personal commitment and example of the leader/senior pastor. Pick/appoint people to assist you. The devil will not work to destroy you but to distract you. Set your priorities right.
  5. A pastor/leader must be a prayer giant. You do not need to. Just start doing it and keep doing it. When you start praying with others, you start praying yourself.
  6. Because it is prayer, my motives will always be pure.  The main motive in prayer should be GOD IS WORTHY TO BE SOUGHT. Other motives like praying out of guilt, for church growth so that we may have a name, revival for the sake of excitement etc should never be tolerated. Seek his face, not his hand.
  7. Because it is prayer, my methods will always be effective. They may not; you need a balanced biblical approach to lead prayer. See notes on the prayer leader.
  8. Additional prayer leaders will automatically emerge. We must train confident leaders for growing prayer ministry. Train them and help them to feel confident in prayer.
  9. People will flock to prayer if I just lead the way. Do not expect a big crowd when God is the only attraction. Because it is prayer, many people may not turn up, but do not give up.
  10. Prayer ministry will always be easy and enjoyable. Though prayer can bring joy and intimacy with God, it can also bring battle with the enemy. Beware of the pride divide ie, looking down on prayerless. Let us desire to lead people into his presence.
