anointing oilAnointing oil is a powerful tool when used by a believer. A few facts, however, need to be known about it.
• God instructed Moses on how to make it and use it. It was made of several spices and was to anoint the tent of meeting, table, all articles, lampstands, altar of incense, utensils among other areas (Ex 30:22-33)
• It was also used to anoint priests like Aaron and his sons, together with their garments (Lev 8:10-30)
• It was used alongside blood. It could be sprinkled on right finger, applied on right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, right hand thumb, big toe and the rest on the head (Lev 14:17-18)
• It was used for consecration (see the above verses)
• It was used to anoint kings. Examples are Saul and David (1 Sam 10:1, 16:13)
• olive oil, from where much of it came from, was used in lamps for lighting in the tabernacle (Lev 24:1)
• It was used in a sacred way, one could not apply on his body or make one using its formula. Punishment for this was death (Ex 30:32-33)
• It was only used by priests
• James 5:14 mentions that it could be used to anoint the sick.
• Anointing breaks the yoke/burden/connection of the enemy (Isa 10:27)
In my country, anointing oil has many times been abused where a few servants of God have been accused of selling it and at times giving it people who have not given their lives to Christ. Nevertheless, this does not mean that Christians should not use anointing oil. I have used anointing oil severally as directed by the Holy Spirit and I have experienced great breakthrough. Anointing oil should be used in prayer by God’s priests. Today’s believers are priests. Peter declares that we are a loyal priesthood (1 Pet 2:9).
Anointing oil can be used today to:
• Consecrate a church building or church instruments/utensils
• Cleanse/sanctify homes, offices, houses etc where believers are occupying or are to occupy. This breaks any previous satanic connection.
• Breaking evil connections in homes that the Devil has been previously given permission to occupy.
• Anointing gates and doors. Many times, like in Africa, the wicked will try to place wicked evil powers/witchcraft in peoples gates. Remember Moses was told to sprinkle blood on door frames so that the destroyer would not gain entry (Ex 12:7,13)
• Sanctify believers household items/ clothing if one suspects that they may have an unholy anointing.
• Anointing the sick when praying for them.
• Use as directed by the Holy Spirit.
Where do you get anointing oil? One can buy olive oil from shops or supermarket. One can also get from true servants of God.
How can I pray over the oil to use it for anointing purposes? A prayer of faith will make the oil ready for use. Consider praying like this;
Thank you father for this oil. I commit it before you in Jesus name. I sanctify it with the blood of Jesus and consecrate it for holy use in Jesus name. I release the power of the Holy Spirit upon it. Let this oil be for healing, cleansing and wherever it shall be applied, let the power of the Holy Spirit be experienced to heal, deliver, set free the oppressed, break every evil yoke and every ungodly power anointing. May your presence be evident wherever it shall be used and may you always receive all glory. May all the works of Satan be destroyed and enemies routed wherever it shall touch. In Jesus name I pray. AMEN

Let the scripture speak
Jer 1:10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
Mt 13:24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Lu 3:9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Joh 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
When engaging in spiritual warfare, it is important to know that the enemy will
• Plant mines your way to blow you up. This is because he wants you out of the way.
• Plant evil when you are least aware
• Steal from God’s children peace, happiness, joy and the blessings of being in Christ
• Come when you are sleeping and sow evil in your life, business, job, marriage, family, relationships, ministry, health, neighbourhood, at the gates of your homestead/house, child(ren) etc
• If you allow the evil to grow, it will multiply and eventually it will kill you

It is also important to know that
• Whatever is grown germinates, first to a seedling, a young plant and eventually a tree.
• When mature, the tree produces fruit
• If the tree is good, it will end up producing more good trees, likewise, if bad, it will produce more bad fruits and consequently many more fruits
• If you don’t desire to keep a certain tree, you can only uproot it when young, when it grows old you will require to lay an axe at its roots
• When destroying a weed or any other unwanted plant, you completely burn it so that it goes not either grow again or have its seeds grow again
It is therefore vital to examine your life spiritually. See what is undesirable that grows in your life. Such which does not come from God. You should know that if you allow it to continue growing, it will bring your destruction.
God’s calling to Jeremiah is part of your calling today. God has not only appointed you to be in charge of your life but also of His creation. His directive to him is what He expects from you today. He told him that he is in charge. He has appointed him as his servant. Same happens to you. He charged him to
• Uproot
• Tear down
• Destroy
• Overthrow
• Build
• Plant
Please note that once you have destroyed a kingdom, you can’t leave a vacuum. You must rebuild, you must plant. This is done by words. Speak life, just as God had directed Ezekiel to speak to dry bones.
You need to use the six points above to completely uproot Satan’s work in your life, and plant God’s plan. You can for instance pray like this: “Today I uproot every wicked plantation at the gates of my family/ I uproot every Satanic plantation in my stomach/blood system/ body/ marriage/ business etc in Jesus name. I tear down all that the enemy has erected in my ____. I destroy all his powers and plans in Jesus name. I overthrow his wicked kingdom now in the Mighty name of Jesus. ”
If whatever you are dealing with has taken too long in existence, you should apply the axe of the living God. You should pray like this “I lay the axe of the living God upon every tree of witchcraft/ immorality/ cancer/ divorce ____ (name it)which has existed in my life/family etc in Jesus name. I cast it into unquenchable fire of God in Jesus name”. Pray repeatedly, for just as you can’t fell a tree with a single cut, the same principle applies spiritually. After this plant what glorifies God. For instance you can say “I now plant health in my family/body in Jesus name”
PLEASE NOTE that in one of my examples above I have talked of evil planted in the stomach. I have handled many cases of sicknesses getting into the body through the stomach after being fed evil/ satanic/ unclean food. This can happen in hotels, your place of work, parties, home etc. The devil has many ways of doing it, including using his agents or by buying food that has satanic incantations on it. It has also happened to me many times but it is not something to worry you. A simple prayer of faith uproots it completely. If you let it to continue, it may grow to a worse disease or death.
REMEMBER, YOU ARE MORE THAN A CONQUEROR IN CHRIST JESUS (Rom 8:37). WALK SHOULDER HIGH CHILD OF GOD.

Take it to the cross dear. Jesus waits to unburden kyou

Take it to the cross dear. Jesus waits to unburden kyou

Uproot what the enemy has planted

What should be our focus when praying?

Is it to seek God’s face or his hand? We need to seek his face first. If we do so, He will gladly extend His hand. ‘When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek’ (Ps27:8 KJV).

How do you lead prayer?

Is it by coming up with requests? Key principles of prayer are that it should:

  • Be scripture fed
  • Worship based
  • Spirit led

When we gather, the question should not be: Do we have requests? But rather ‘let’s open our Bibles’. Let the word of God shape our praying.

The ultimate purpose of prayer is the glory of God. One powerful approach is 4/4 pattern: Upwards, Down wards, Inwards and Outwards.

1. Upwards focus – ‘Our father who art in heaven …’Matt 6:9. Open the Bible, read the passage, ask what it tells us about God and his character. Interact with each other in these truths. Worship the Lord for who He is.

2. Downward focus. Yield to Him ‘Thy kingdom come’ v.10. Surrender. Ask the Holy spirit to control us. Align your heart with his. The spirit will at this moment give you the requests.

3. Inwards – Bring requests to God. ‘Give us this day …’ v. 11. Ask Him what you need.

4. Outward focus – Readiness. ‘And lead us not …’ v.13. Now prepare for battle. Stand with the sword of the spirit. Claim promises. End with the upward stroke – ‘For thine is the kingdom …’ v.13. Glorify God. End with worship.

MYTHS ABOUT PRAYER

This is an edited version of The power of praying together by Daniel Henderson.

  1. People in the church already know how to pray. You Must however, lead people in learning how to pray through exhortation and example. What moves the heart of God? Look at Jesus’ and Paul’s prayer model. Be passionate and teach people to pray.
  2. We do not need a culture of prayer to have a significant ministry. Effective ministry is not about what we do, but why, how and for whom. We need to spend time in God’s presence. We need to be Acts I leaders devoted continually in prayer.
  3. Private prayer is more important than corporate prayer. Both are essential. The greatest tool the devil can use would be that which would make Christians not to pray together. The early church prayed as one.
  4. Prayer ministry will grow without leadership. You cannot point the way, you must lead the way. The prayer level of the church or your group seldom rises above the personal commitment and example of the leader/senior pastor. Pick/appoint people to assist you. The devil will not work to destroy you but to distract you. Set your priorities right.
  5. A pastor/leader must be a prayer giant. You do not need to. Just start doing it and keep doing it. When you start praying with others, you start praying yourself.
  6. Because it is prayer, my motives will always be pure.  The main motive in prayer should be GOD IS WORTHY TO BE SOUGHT. Other motives like praying out of guilt, for church growth so that we may have a name, revival for the sake of excitement etc should never be tolerated. Seek his face, not his hand.
  7. Because it is prayer, my methods will always be effective. They may not; you need a balanced biblical approach to lead prayer. See notes on the prayer leader.
  8. Additional prayer leaders will automatically emerge. We must train confident leaders for growing prayer ministry. Train them and help them to feel confident in prayer.
  9. People will flock to prayer if I just lead the way. Do not expect a big crowd when God is the only attraction. Because it is prayer, many people may not turn up, but do not give up.
  10. Prayer ministry will always be easy and enjoyable. Though prayer can bring joy and intimacy with God, it can also bring battle with the enemy. Beware of the pride divide ie, looking down on prayerless. Let us desire to lead people into his presence.
