I have with a lot of interest realised that many of my readers have been reading my earlier posts on Christian attitude towards porn. From the comments, many are really struggling with the temptations to sin. I came across some writings from Thomas a’ Kempis devotions (1380-1471) and I felt it’s important to share. He says that we should note the following about temptations (although he doesn’t talk about porn, however, the subject is of great benefit)
1. Be on the Watch
As long as we live in the world we cannot escape temptations and tribulations.  As it is written in Job, “our  life  on  this  earth  is  warfare.” For this reason  we must  be careful  and concerned  about  our own  temptations.  We must  be  watchful  in  prayer lest  the  devil be  given an  opportunity  to  deceive  us.  For the devil  never  sleeps  but “goes  about  seeking  whom he  may devour.”  Remember, no one  is  so  holy  that  he or  she does not have to  deal  with temptations.-We  can  never be free  of  them.
2. The Usefulness  of Temptations
And  yet, temptations  can  be  useful  to  us even though  they seem  to  cause  us nothing  but pain.  They are  useful  because  they  can make  us  humble,  they  can cleanse us,  and they  can  teach  us. All of  the  saints  passed  through  times  of  temptation  and tribulation,  and  they  used  them  to  make  progress  in  the  spiritual  life.  Those  who did not deal  with temptations  successfully  fell  to  the  wayside.
3. The Source  of Termptations: ‘Why’ W’e Can’t  Run Away
No  one  is  completely  free  of temptations  because  the  source  of temptation  is  in ourselves. We were  born  in  sinful  desire.  When  one temptation  passes,  another  is on its  way. ‘We  will always  have temptation  because  we are sinners who lost  our original innocence  in  the  Garden.  Many have  tried  to  escape  temptations  only to find  that  they  more  grievously  fall into  them.  We cannot win this  battle by running  away  alone; the  key to  victory is  true  humility  and  patience;  in  them  we  overcome  the  enemy. If  we merely  turn  away from  temptation  outwardly  and  do not  strike  at the root,  we will  make  very  little  progress.  In  fact,  you  will  find  that  the  temptations will  return  more  quickly  and  powerfully, and you will feel  even  worse. Little by little,  through  patient endurance  of spirit (with  the  help of  God),  you will win a  better  victory  than  by  your  own determination.
4. Temptations Reveal Who We Are
The  beginning  of  all  evil temptations  is  an  unstable  mind and a small  trust in  God. Just as  a ship  without a helm  is  tossed  about by  the  waves,  so  a person  who  lacks resolution  and certainty  is  tossed  about  by temptations.  Temptation reveals  our  instability  and  our  lack  of trust  in  God;  temptations reveal  who  we  are. This  is  why we must pay  attention  to  them.
5.  How  Temptations Enter  and  Overcome  Us
We will do  better  in  dealing  with temptations  if  we keep  an  eye on them  in  the very beginning” Temptations  are  more easily  overcome  if  they are  never allowed  to enter  our  minds.  Meet  them  at the  door  as  soon as  they  knock,  and do  not let them  in.  One simple  thought  can  enter  the  mind and start  the  process. The  process  works  like  this. First, the  thought  is  allowed  to  enter  into  our minds. Second, the  imagination  is  sparked  by the  thought.  Third, we Get a sense of pleasure  at  the  fantasy,  and we entertain  it.  Fourth  and finally,  we engage  in  the evil  action,  assenting  to  its  urges.  This  is  how, little  by little,  temptations  gain entrance  and overcome  us  if  they  are  not  resisted  at  the  beginning.  The longer  we  let them  overcome  us,  the  weaker we  become,  and the  stronger  the  enemy  against  us.
6.  Never Despair:  God Is  with  You
‘We must  not despair  when  we are tempted  but, instead,  seek  God more fervently, asking  for  his  help in  this  time  of  tribulation. Remember  St. Paul’s words  of assurance, “God  will make  a way  of  escape  from  every  temptation  so  that  we  may  be able to  bear  it.”  Let us, therefore,  humble ourselves  before  God and  take  shelter  beneath  his  hand.  God will lift  up all who  have  a humble  spirit  and save them  in  all trials  and tribulations. Patience  is  necessary  in  this  life  because so  much  of life  is  fraught  with adversity.  No matter how  hard  we try,  our lives  will never  be without strive  and  grief.
Thus, we should  not strive  for  a peace  that  is  without  temptation,  or  for  a life  that never  feels  adversity.  Peace  is  not  found  by  escaping  temptations,  but  by  being  tried by  them.  we will have discovered  peace  when we have  been  tried  and come through  the  trial  of  temptation.
7. The  Pain of Temptations
“But,”  you  may say,  “‘What  about  those  who  find  such  pleasure  and delight when they give  in  to  temptations?”  To  be sure,  there  is  pleasure for  them,  but  how  long  does  it last?  It  is  like  smoke-it  vanishes  quickly.  Soon  even  the  memory  of  the  joy  is  gone.
They  will never  find  rest,  and they  will  live  in  bitterness  and  weariness  and  fear. The very  thing  they  think  will  bring  them joy  will bring  them  sorrow;  that which  they  think  will bring  them  pleasure  will bring  them  only  pain. Because  of their  blindness  and  numbness they  may never  see or feel how  miserable  they  are. They  may not even  know  that  their  soul is  slowly dying.
8.  The Way to  True  Delight
But, if  you want  to  have true  delight,  here is  the way: have contempt for  all worldly things  and  all lower  delights,  and  rich  consolation  will, in turn,  be  given  to you.  In  proportion  as  you  withdraw yourself  from  the  love  of these  things,  so you will  find  consolations  from  God much more sweet  and  potent. At  first  this  will be  difficult.  Long-standing  habits will resist,  but they  will be vanquished,  in  time, by  a better  habit-if you  persevere!  The  flesh  will cry out,  but it  will be  restrained  by the  Spirit.  The  devil  will try  to stir  you  up and  provoke you, but  he  will  run  away  the  moment you begin to  pray.  And above  all,  try  to  engage  in  useful  work.  In  doing  so,  the  devil  is  prevented  from  having  access  to  you.
9.  Lay the  Axe to  the  Root
If  we  made an  effort  to  stand  firmly  and courageously  in  the  struggle, doubtless  we should  see  the  help  of our  Lord  from  heaven,  for  he  is  ready  to  help  those  who must in  his  grace;  he gives us  occasions  to  fight  that  we  may  win.  If  our  spiritual  progress relies  only on outward  observances,  our devotion  will not last  long.  Let  us  lay  the axe  to  the  root,  so that  being  purged  of  unruly  passions  we may  have  peace of mind. If  every year  we uprooted  a single fault,  we should  soon  become  perfect.  But we  often  feel  that  we were  better  and more pure  at the  beginning  of our spiritual lives  than  we are  now after  many years of living  our  vows! Fervor  and progress ought  to  increase  daily,  but  it  is  thought  to  be a  fine  thing  these  days if  a person  can hold  on to  even  a little  of those  first  intense  feelings!  If  we would  exercise  a little self discipline  at the  beginning,  then  we would later  be  able  to  do  everything easily  and  joyfully.
10.  Defeating  Old Habits
It is  hard  to  give  up old habits,  but it  is  even harder  to  go  against  one’s  own will. Yet, if  you cannot  overcome  small,  trivial  things,  when will  you  overcome  difficult ones?  Fight  the  urge  when  it  starts,  and break  off bad  habits, lest  perhaps,  little by little,  they  lead  you into  greater  trouble.  Oh, if  you could  only know  how  much peace  for  yourself  and  joy  for  others  your  good efforts could  bring,  I think  you would  be more anxious  for  spiritual  growth.

I REALLY WANT TO COME OUT OF PORN & MASTURBATION, BUT I CANNOT

image

THE ANSWER IS THE CROSS

(Though a long read, it is worth the reading. The prayer comes at the end)

Ro 7:15 I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.

Many Christians, as seen the comments made in this blog, are struggling to come out of porn but they have found it impossible. Writing to the Roman church, Paul writes of a similar frustration that he was unable to do the things he wanted, but rather did what he hated. Following Paul’s discourse in Romans Chapter 6,7, 8 and even other related chapters gives us the key to unlock the disaster of being addicted to sin.
Lets keenly study these verses that many Christians skip when reading or just go through them without understanding their value.
Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?
2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
6 We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the sinful body might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin.
7 For he who has died is freed from sin
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions.
13 Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but yield yourselves to God as men who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness.
Rom 7:7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I should not have known sin. I should not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
8 But sin, finding opportunity in the commandment, wrought in me all kinds of covetousness. Apart from the law sin lies dead.
9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died;
10 the very commandment which promised life proved to be death to me.
11 For sin, finding opportunity in the commandment, deceived me and by it killed me.
12 So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good.
13 Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, working death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.
16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good.
17 So then it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me
18 For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it.
19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do.
20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me.
21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand.
22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inmost self,
23 but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members.
24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I of myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
Ro 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
4 in order that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
6 To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, indeed it cannot;
8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

In the discussion above, Paul helps the Christian Church to realize the fact that we are born in sin. The law, which preceded the coming of Christ, could not help man. As seen in the Genesis story of creation, man was created in the image of God and was a spiritual being before the fall, which is why he could communicate to God as God is a Spirit and those who have to worship Him do so in Spirit ad in truth. Man was therefore being controlled by the Spirit of God and thus could fellowship with Him. After the fall, man lost this great privilege and was dominated by sin. To help man out of it, God through Moses sent the law to guide man. The law as seen above is spiritual (7:14). The law came in form of commandments. These commandments were however being placed on sinful souls, it was like patching a new wineskin on an old one, there must be a tear as each will be pulling towards its own side.
The law therefore just helped man to be more aware of sin! Why, because man was not being controlled by the Spirit of God but by the flesh, which is hostile towards God (8:7-8). You can’t worship or commune with God in the flesh and you can’t resist sin, which is spiritual with the flesh, for spiritual things are supreme to fleshy or carnal mind. The many laws of ‘thou shall not’ could not help man overcome sin. What therefore could really set man from sin, which is spiritual?
God, in His love for mankind send man who was born and destined to death. He came and took all our sins, wickedness, lusts, pride, curses and all the works of Satan which were at work in us. He carried them to the cross, which was actually cursed by the law for it is written that cursed is the man who hangs on a tree (Deut 21:23). Jesus then conquered sin and death (the wages of sin is death – 6:23) by the Spirit of God. He calls us to the cross, to accept to be crucified with him so as to do away with the body of sin in us which cannot worship God and cannot overcome sin. He calls us to surrender all the carnal abilities that we have trusted in ourselves, all our struggles to overcome sin, all our pain; all our carnal weaknesses. After this total commitment and surrender we die to the self through Christ by His Spirit. After this, just like a grain of wheat that falls to the ground and dies in order to live again, not as a grain but as a productive wheat plant; we are born a new person, an experience called being born again. The new man is not under control of the old self but under the Spirit of God, therefore, sin, which is spiritual, is overcome by the Spirit of God now living in us. In Zechariah 4:6 we understand that it is not by power nor by might, but by His Spirit.
If then one is born again, sin and death has no dominion over him. We should walk as dead to sin but alive unto God in Christ Jesus by His Spirit. Why should sin not have any dominion over us? Because we are not under law any more, but under grace (6:14).
The devil uses condemnation as a great tool in his hands to oppress Christians. Paul rejoices after being frustrated by the grip of sin in the next chapter by saying that there is now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. Why? They are now operating under the law of the Spirit of life, not of sin and death. What we could not do, we can now – by His Spirit! Galatians 5:24 records ‘And they that are of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts thereof.’ Christians live a crucified life. Does this mean sin win not come their way? No! It will. How then are we to handle it? Not by laws or do’s and don’ts, not by our struggles, but by acknowledging we have sinned, repented, accepted forgiveness, nailed our sins on the cross by faith, died (daily) on the cross with Christ by faith; and committed the Spirit of God to help us overcome. He will help us overcome just as He helped Jesus. We should not accept the condemnation of sin from the devil after repenting our sins; this is actually a sin of unbelief since Christ’s blood has washed you clean. Lean on His grace to overcome sin, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you out of sin, and sin of lust, sexual immorality and porn in this regard. Thank God for His deliverance even when it feels like nothing is happening. Every day confess that you are nailing these sins to the cross and you are actually dead to them. If you are dead you are free from any previous engagement (Rom 7:3). Confess daily that you are overcoming by the power of the Holy Spirit who is at work in you, take time always to thank God. Draw close to Jesus and ask Him to give you the grace to overcome. Jesus knew we could not overcome by our power, that is why He asked the father to send us a helper. Alleluia, you have a helper just next to you!
This is indeed good news. Jesus Christ is good news to those in bondage and captivity. The cross is likewise good news to mankind who is struggling in sin. Wipe away your tears of struggle, surrender to the cross on a daily basis, ask the Holy Spirit to help you out. Confess you are coming out of sexual sin, porn and masturbation. Command demons of lust, porn, adultery, masturbation and sin to leave immediately in Jesus name. Declare daily that you are crucifying every member of your body to the cross with Christ and declare that that member must die for Christ to live again, for whatever has been crucified must die. Feed your new man with spiritual food, not carnal food. Take time to study the Word of God, love it. If you find it difficult ask the Holy Spirit to help you. The psalmist said he had hidden the word of God in his heart that he may not sin against him (Ps 119:11).
Make this your daily prayer, take time to pray, fast and thank God for accepting to take away your sins, and specifically the sin that has been a problem to you. Accept the working of the Holy Spirit in you to overcome. Pray in the tongues if you are able and believe that the Spirit of God will be making intercessions for you. Walk around not dejected, but as an overcomer, not condemned, but as one whom Christ has shown mercy.
Prayer.
Dear Jesus, thank you for the cross. You took away my sins and shame. You humbled yourself unto death by the cross. You conquered sin, death and the grave for me. Now you live to make intercession for me and you are cheering me to run the race with perseverance looking unto you at the finishing line. I believe in you. I believe I will make it Jesus. I surrender my carnal mind, my flesh, the sin of masturbation, porn, sexual lusts and immorality – all to the cross. I crucify them in your name. I also accept to die today with you and that your Spirit leads and guides me to victory. By the power you have given me (Luke 10:19) I destroy every bondage to porn, lust, masturbation in Jesus name by the power of the Holy Spirit. I come out of every such bondage in the name of Jesus Christ. I command every demon of lust, porn, and masturbation to leave now in Jesus name. I declare that I am no longer a slave to sin for sin shall not be my master. Deliver me dear LORD by your spirit from the grip of porn. I come out of their control by faith. I accept your extended hand of help. I refuse to be condemned by the devil of a sin you are dealing with. I confess I am free. I walk today in the freedom of the Holy Spirit. I walk free by your wonderful grace. Thank you my father for your great love to redeem me. I am so happy today! I walk a free man/woman in Christ Jesus.

Are you a Christian and have you been hooked to watching porn? Many Christian today are struggling with how to be set, free from watching porn. This includes both the married and the unmarried. In fact, statistics show that about 70% of born again Christians in the U.S watch or have watched porn. One thing that you need to know is that what you are doing is a sin: sin against God and against your body. Many people who pose nude or are in porn sites do so under influence of demons and drugs. The moment you watch this you open a door in your life for demons of immorality to enter you, believe it or not. This is why it is not easy to quit watching. You can’t quit it with your self will. You need God to deliver you. You are also risking destruction of your marriage by the demons you have allowed to be tied with (soul tied), Let, the scripture talk:

1 John 2:16 For everything in the world – the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he does – comes not from the father but from the world

2 Tim 2:22 Flee the evil desires of the youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart

Matt 5:27-28 You have heard that it was said, ‘do not commit adultery’. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has committed adultery with her in his heart

1 Cor 6:16,18-20 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body.

Today the heart of Jesus is Heavy with seeing so many people falling into the devils trap of Porn, masturbation etc.  Galatians 5:19-21 says that those who practise such will NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD. There is however hope. God can deliver you, but you must repent and Flee from such hell traps. I would recommend you read www.firststone.org (A Battle Plan Against Porn That Works) about how to be set free. You can also watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-JDGqWoJHI to see how serious porn has been even to kids. Here are prayer points you can consider praying:

  • I break every satanic marriage in my life in Jesus name.
  • I bind every spirit of lust in controlling my body, soul and mind. I cast them away in Jesus name
  • Let your fire burn away any lust in my eyes o Lord, and in my sexual members in Jesus name
  • Father I ask you to close every doorway of lust and immorality in my life. Help me to pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace
  • Deliver me o Lord by your power and set me free.
  •  I pray in Jesus name

Do as you have prayed: FLEE. FLEE. FLEE.

Please feel free to give your comment and share your experience. I will stand with you in case you want someone to pray with you (this is only for born again christians. If you are not a born again Christian, your first step should be to commit your life to Christ)
Declare like the psalmist “I will set before my eyes no vile thing” (Ps 101:3) and like Job “I have made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully to a girl.” (Job 31:1)
If you are addicted and you would like to pray yourself out of this Please check a ‘A prayer and fasting guide to be set free from pornography and masturbation’ post in this blog which is under the tag ‘Christian porn’. It will be of great help to you if you if you seriously want to be set free.

I suggest to you to visit the following sites for assistance if you are a christian struggling with porn: http://xxxchurch.com/     http://www.everymansbattle.com http://www.christian faith.com http://www.christianonline.wordpress.com http://sexhelp.com
NB. For married couples, your spouse is not the reason for watching porn, so don’t console yourself with such. The more you feed your eyes with this the more your soul darkens, and the more you will crave for it. Porn will lead you to other immoral acts like masturbation and fornication, even with people who may not be as beautiful/handsome than your mate.
