Genesis  24:60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said to her, You are our sister, be you the mother of thousands of millions, and let your seed possess the gate of those which hate them.
Every Country, city, home or neighborhood has gates. Gates are both entry as well as exit points. Whoever controls the gates controls the city. This is greatly realised during time of war in the physical realms.

The Bible records that Christians are at war.  Contemporary English Version records in Ephesians 6:12 that “We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world.”

Many homes,  communities,  cities and the like have their gates controlled by wicked powers. These oppress and intimidate those within.  Do you know that as a born again Christian you can control whatever happens where God has placed you.  God has given each one of us power and authority to control the gates and cities where we live in for wherever the soles of our feet tread, God gives us that land. God told Joshua in Joshua 1:3 that Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses

We are ordained as Kings and priests and wherever we are we should act like the masters.  The enemy knows it but won’t give it up if we don’t arise and control whatever happens where we are.

The enemy will try to fight back, when taking such lands for the Lord,  just as it happens in the physical realms. His resistance and weapons, however,  are not as deadly as the ones in our arsenal.  We arise and take it by force.  Jesus told his disciples, “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” Matthew 16:18. Gates of wickedness or wickedness will try to control the Church but we are to prevail against them.  A believer can do this in spiritual warfare or in corporate prayers.  The battle intensifies with the expanse of the area covered. David knew this kind of warfare,  he would call upon the name of the lord to intervene.

Psalms 24:7-8 Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of Glory shall come in. Who is this King of Glory? Jehovah strong and mighty, Jehovah mighty in battle.

As done in the physical realms, the best strategy would be to bind the strong man and destroy him,  then destroy the gates of the enemies and their cities. You can do so by declaring by the power of the Holy Spirit in Jesus you are possessing and destroying the gates of your enemies in your neighborhood etc.  Advance and destroy their cities,  hiding places, altars and their foundations. Declare you are taking them for God. Declare you are establishing new gates,  gates of righteousness with the angels of God guarding them. Welcome the King of glory to enter and take over. It is important to survey where you are and destroy the enemy’s exit and entry points that have been established through evil altars and foundations. God wants to come to your family,  your neighbourhood, city, nation, institution etc welcome him. A pious attitude, stand,  or titles cannot change this; it takes a man or woman of God who knows that he or she has been anointed by God at a time like this to destroy evil establishments and welcome Christ where we stay. Stop complaining about the problems in your locality, for you have the solution. A lion will be ruled by Hyena’s until the day he will arise and roar as the king of the jungle,  then every other animal will take cover.

You are Abraham’s children by faith

It is your time to arise!

Hebrews 4:14-16 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Hebrews 2:10-11 In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.

Hebrews 2:14-15 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

As we approach God in prayer, we are coming to a throne; a throne of grace and mercy. This is the picture we should all have. He who sits there is Christ himself. He is our brother, even clever than our brothers, who is ready to help us in every way. He has passed all we pass through and has emerged victorious even without sin. He has been where we are, He understands our weaknesses, and He can offer our prayers to God in a better way than we do. And so friends,
we can overcome death as He overcame
sickness as He carried our infirmities
sorrow as He became a man of sorrows
captivity as He went into captivity and made it captive
every temptation as He was tempted in every way yet without sin
rejection as He was rejected
abuse as He was abused
physical, social and psychological attacks as He did
false accusations as He was falsely accused
labelling as He was labelled
make it to heaven as He is already there
… and the list goes on.
It doesn’t matter where we currently are, He was there and overcame, and He is ready to show us mercy and give us grace to overcome just as He did.

Lets tell Him that we are sorry where we let Him down. and BOLDLY ACCEPT HIS GRACE AND MERCY FROM JESUS OUR LORD AND BROTHER. We need to have this picture in our minds when we come to Him. He supplies my grace to conquer all in His name

Isaiah 45:3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call [thee] by thy name, [am] the God of Israel.

John 15:7-11 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and [that] your joy might be full.

Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Jesus is calling us to a deeper relationship. He wants to show and help us experience treasures that are hidden in secret places. He is calling us to treasures of His love, peace, joy, humility, righteousness, unity, wisdom, knowledge, revelations, understanding, meekness, grace, peace, divine victory, holiness, faith, purity among others. It is a place where He sheds us off self righteousness, condemnation, bondage, yokes, burdens, self centeredness, pride, lust, covetousness, busy bodying, back biting,  disunity, despair, fear, self worth etc.
He leads us to this sacred place of His treasures. Treasures are never found easily or in the open, you must work to get them. In Christ however, You just need to surrender and desire Him alone. Seek to find Him, ask Him to give you grace to seek Him. As we abide in Him and Him in us, we start getting changed to this wonderful glory.
Lets desire to journey and partake of these treasurers. The more we draw nearer to His heart the more the treasure and glory, and the more He will glorify in us. This is a place where we see ourselves as unworthy and the worst of sinners were it not for His grace. It is a place where He alone receives glory from whatever we do while in these earthly vessels. It is a place where we start seeing through His eyes of love, hearing through Him and desiring to see holiness and justice in your life and church. A place we shall know His heart for the fallen world.
May our prayer then always be: Spirit of God, lead me to that place I have never been before where your love flows deeper than the sea.

Key text
Gal 4:19 My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you–
(ASV)

CHRIST BE FORMED
How often do you pray for new believers? How often do you pray for your pastor, friend, spouse, child? Many a times we celebrate when one has come to Christ; angels too rejoice in heaven. Jesus compares the idea of salvation with a sower planting seeds which fall in different soils. He says thus:
Mt 13:3-9 And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow; and as he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them: and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth: and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them: and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He that hath ears, let him hear.
Any believer is a product of a seed sown (I hope and pray that the reader has been sowing, if not, do it – you must be productive). Different soils and different climatic conditions will play a great part in the growth of this believer regardless of his age and years in salvation.
Paul, writing to the Galatian church helps them understand the passion he has had to see the church growing in the things of God. He call the church “my little children”, meaning that he regards himself to be their father. He further informs them that he has been travailing for them until Christ be born in them. Writing to Thessalonian church he says that his greatest desire is that the church (his hope, joy & glory) be worthy before our Lord Jesus.
That same mind that was in Paul should be ours too. We need to pray consistently that Christ be formed in the life of our dear one. That in all their manners they may be transformed to the image of Christ. Begin it and you will see great difference in their lives. Before you complain about them, put them daily praying Pauline prayers for the church to them- that Christ shall be formed in them, that they may grow in love; that God will give them wisdom, understanding, revelation etc; that they will love the LORD above all else. Travail until this is birthed. Remember, God holds you accountable for those he places near your reach. I was recently jolted by this testimony by Kenneth Hagin where he describes an episode that happened in his life. He had been led to intercede for a certain man but refused to heed the direction the Spirit of God was leading him to. He always thought he would have time to pray for him. After some time the man died, and God showed him through a vision where the man was. He was in hell, screaming and wailing as fire burned him without ceasing. It was a terrifying experience to him indeed. Jesus pointed out to him that He held him (Kenneth) responsible for the death of the man! Reason? He refused to intercede for him. How guilty are we also about the same? May God help us.
Please take the challenge – intercede for Christ to be formed in others.

Jesus is our spring

Jesus is the spring

A story is told about a certain man who used to live high in the mountains. His responsibility was to keep the spring pure: he would remove trash, dead animals, reroute contaminated streams in the vicinity of the spring among others. Sadly, the town beneath was short of money and so they decided to cancel the man’s salary to balance their budget. They argued that people seldom saw him, and the stream would probably remain pure by itself. It did so for a short while, but then it was filled with fungus, and an epidemic spread through the village. As a result, some members of the towns governing council suggested measures to take to clean up the water supply with the latest chemicals. These measures were of some value, so the epidemic slowed. In the next mayoral elections, some candidates came up with theories of how to solve the solution. The wisest among them suggested that they rehire the keeper of the spring, for it was at the top of the mountains where contamination took place. The same happens today, that many at times we do not tackle issues from the source of the rottenness; we used methods to avert the situation while the going lasts, but not once and for all. The problems we see in the world today will not be solved by good policies, learned people, hiring the most learned crew; no, they need Christ, who reigns at the source of the spring. He is the one who can “remove the rotten trash” in our societies, and solve the problems we are grappling with: corruption, nepotism, tribalism, devil worship, defiance, greed, ungodliness, unbelief, immorality among many others. Sadly, the world has pushed Him out of the picture, and the church in a way has allowed the world to redefine the cross to them. Now the world is telling the church what they should and what they shouldn’t do (or be doing). The church has also allowed the world into the church, thus the world (what is secular) is defining how we should worship, dress, drive, live, party, pray, give, fellowship et cetera. The cross is no longer the centre; it is tactfully being pushed aside. We need to go on our knees for God’s will, purposes and design to be done and fulfilled in our generation. Else, another generation will come and blame ours because we did not do our part. Remember, as long as Moses’ hands were lifted up, the Amelekites were being defeated; and as long as your/my hands are up, your/my family, neighbourhood, school, church, nation (s), generation etc will encounter the transforming power of the cross. This calls you and me to take our part. God bless you

PRAYER FOR SOULS

image

Please take a minute and read this, then commit yourself to daily pray for lost souls. Your prayer will deliver a soul from going to hell.
There is nothing as important in the heart of Christ than seeing his people set free. Many souls have been lost in sin. Some have not yet heard the word, so they are still in darkness. Others have been so broken hearted that they doubt that there is a Christ who can help them out. Others still cannot openly practice Christianity for fears of their lives. Many are held by the firm grip of Satan and he has made them his captives. The message that Jesus quoted from Isaiah 61 bore the core ministry of Jesus (Take time and read it)
Isa 61:1-4 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.(KJV)
Many in your family or circle of friends are heading to hell unless their souls are set free and firmly established in Christ. Will you partner with me and the many others soul loving saints around the world to earnestly pray for lost souls. My prayer goes like this:
Father in Jesus name, you alone are God and our saviour.
I come to you with full knowledge that you hear me when I pray according to your will. It is your will for the lost souls to come to you.
I pray for the lost souls of ____________. Save his/ her/their souls. I plead for their souls father. Deliver them Lord.
Let your light shine upon the darkness that covers them. Let your light consume it completely in Jesus name. Send forth your light and your truth upon them Lord.
Let every power of Satan that has held them in captivity be broken by your mighty hand in Jesus name.
Let every Satanic prison that has held them be opened and let them come out in Jesus name.
Bind the broken hearted, comfort those who mourn, give beauty for ashes Lord, anoint those who mourn with oil of joy; and those with heavy hearts I pray that you give them praise.
Establish them dear Lord and make them build the ancient wastes in their lives, families, cities and nations where you will lead them.
Use them mightily to repair and restore the desolations of many generations.
May you lead these souls through the paths of righteousness, causing them to love you wholly and love others as they love themselves.
Snatch them from the slimy path of Sheol o Lord.
Remember their souls this day Lord. In Christ Jesus I pray.

What should be our focus when praying?

Is it to seek God’s face or his hand? We need to seek his face first. If we do so, He will gladly extend His hand. ‘When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek’ (Ps27:8 KJV).

How do you lead prayer?

Is it by coming up with requests? Key principles of prayer are that it should:

  • Be scripture fed
  • Worship based
  • Spirit led

When we gather, the question should not be: Do we have requests? But rather ‘let’s open our Bibles’. Let the word of God shape our praying.

The ultimate purpose of prayer is the glory of God. One powerful approach is 4/4 pattern: Upwards, Down wards, Inwards and Outwards.

1. Upwards focus – ‘Our father who art in heaven …’Matt 6:9. Open the Bible, read the passage, ask what it tells us about God and his character. Interact with each other in these truths. Worship the Lord for who He is.

2. Downward focus. Yield to Him ‘Thy kingdom come’ v.10. Surrender. Ask the Holy spirit to control us. Align your heart with his. The spirit will at this moment give you the requests.

3. Inwards – Bring requests to God. ‘Give us this day …’ v. 11. Ask Him what you need.

4. Outward focus – Readiness. ‘And lead us not …’ v.13. Now prepare for battle. Stand with the sword of the spirit. Claim promises. End with the upward stroke – ‘For thine is the kingdom …’ v.13. Glorify God. End with worship.

MYTHS ABOUT PRAYER

This is an edited version of The power of praying together by Daniel Henderson.

  1. People in the church already know how to pray. You Must however, lead people in learning how to pray through exhortation and example. What moves the heart of God? Look at Jesus’ and Paul’s prayer model. Be passionate and teach people to pray.
  2. We do not need a culture of prayer to have a significant ministry. Effective ministry is not about what we do, but why, how and for whom. We need to spend time in God’s presence. We need to be Acts I leaders devoted continually in prayer.
  3. Private prayer is more important than corporate prayer. Both are essential. The greatest tool the devil can use would be that which would make Christians not to pray together. The early church prayed as one.
  4. Prayer ministry will grow without leadership. You cannot point the way, you must lead the way. The prayer level of the church or your group seldom rises above the personal commitment and example of the leader/senior pastor. Pick/appoint people to assist you. The devil will not work to destroy you but to distract you. Set your priorities right.
  5. A pastor/leader must be a prayer giant. You do not need to. Just start doing it and keep doing it. When you start praying with others, you start praying yourself.
  6. Because it is prayer, my motives will always be pure.  The main motive in prayer should be GOD IS WORTHY TO BE SOUGHT. Other motives like praying out of guilt, for church growth so that we may have a name, revival for the sake of excitement etc should never be tolerated. Seek his face, not his hand.
  7. Because it is prayer, my methods will always be effective. They may not; you need a balanced biblical approach to lead prayer. See notes on the prayer leader.
  8. Additional prayer leaders will automatically emerge. We must train confident leaders for growing prayer ministry. Train them and help them to feel confident in prayer.
  9. People will flock to prayer if I just lead the way. Do not expect a big crowd when God is the only attraction. Because it is prayer, many people may not turn up, but do not give up.
  10. Prayer ministry will always be easy and enjoyable. Though prayer can bring joy and intimacy with God, it can also bring battle with the enemy. Beware of the pride divide ie, looking down on prayerless. Let us desire to lead people into his presence.
