prayer6

What goes through your mind anytime you think of speaking in faith when you are praying. The Bible defines faith as a substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb 11:1). It also records that without faith you cannot please God, and that whoever asks for anything, he should do it in faith, without wavering (James 1:6). This week the Lord took me through James 1:17 “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit”. Elijah was a man like you and me, yet he prayed an extraordinary prayer. He was able to command rain and it obeyed. Look at the expressions ‘it might not ’ and ‘it gave’ which is the same as ‘it might’.

On another episode, Jesus commented the faith of the Centurion. “And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel” (Matt 8:5-10). The centurion knew a fact that many people are ignorant of, that just as He was in authority and had soldiers under him to serve him, Jesus  also have on our side divine ‘soldiers’ to help him for he was serving in a kingdom. We have angels as ministering spirits to serve us as we live for Christ (Heb 1:14). Any time you send a word, they pick it up and fulfill it.

We are created in the image of God (Gen 1:26). One aspect of Him is that He is a creator. Looking at how he brought to pass his creation, we find that He spoke a word “Let there be .. “ and  there would be (Gen 1). The Spirit of God was there to effect everything He said. It is the power in the Holy Spirit who brought Jesus from the grave, and this power is upon believers (Eph 1:18-20). Therefore, believers should declare with authority and faith and it shall be. Joshua was able to command the sun to stop (Joshua 10:12-13) and it did. Jesus commanded the storm to quieten and it did. He was unhappy with their little faith. Mt 8:26 “And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm”. God has put you in a position to command even the heavenly hosts and they work to your favour.

When God made man, He gave him dominion over his creation (Gen 1:28). He was to rule over it. Before this he had already created the sun and commanded it to rule during daytime while the moon at night (they still do even today, they have power even to smite you Ps 1215-6 but God shields us). But now in came man, he was now even to rule over them as they do their assigned duties. This is why when you wake up you need to declare what you expect for the day, just as the psalmist  would by saying  “ This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it” Ps 118:24.  Joshua was therefore exercising his given authority over the sun.

So what happens when we speak a word of faith? The words we speak are taken by angelic beings that minister to us and effect what we say. However, when we confess defeat, the devil, who is an accuser of brethren, takes the opportunity to accuse and bring the evil we feared. When a witch wants to perform a miracle, she orders demons that are under her and they carry out her duties. With them they perform miracles to the wonder of their followers. We have more than this. Elisha’s servant doubted this powerful provision of help, when Elisha prayed for his eyes to be opened, he saw horses and chariots of fire around them (2Kings 6:17).

I pray that Christians would see this mighty providence from our loving father. I wish they would imagine the mighty angelic beings pushing the waters of the red sea to pave way for the children of Israel, I wish they would see the word of healing they send being taken at a supersonic speed to be effected to the sick, I wish they would have faith to speak without doubting trusting that God takes over the rest. We need to speak faith in our situations, in our places of work, in our family etc. you will eat the fruit of the words you speak. Speak life to your situation. Pr 18:21says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”. Remember “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16). Speak it, again and again and again and again. Doubt not. Blessings

2Co 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.(NKJV)

A sister friend of mine gave me this great testimony. She had taken a motorbike ride, covering a distance of less than half an hour, then she felt like her eyes were full of soil particles. When she reached home, she tried to wash her eyes with water, and then her problems started. She felt a lot of irritation in her eyes, like the outer eye membrane had been removed. From then she could hardly see. As a teacher she had hard time teaching, and whenever she preached, she would let people read passages for her. Her eyes could not look at any bright object or white object. One day, after a period of about two years, she heard a preacher teaching using the above verse. What came clear to her was that you have to stretch your hand and pull down strongholds that stand against you. She got the revelation and could not wait for the end of the program. She started firing prayers thus: ‘I pull down every stronghold that has stood against my sight in Jesus name. I cast down the rubble away in the name of Jesus’. She repeated this prayer vigorously for several minute, and every time she would say it she would stretch her hand and pull an invisible stronghold and cast away. After this episode she went to sleep, but before sleeping she was attracted to a piece of paper lying near her bed. She stretched her hand and picked it, and she realized to her amazement that she could read well. She went to her study table,  picked a hymn book and again, she could read the words. What a joy! She screamed in ecstatic joy for her miracle. She realized she did not need the spectacles she had been wearing for the period she was unwell. Since then, she has stopped using them. Praise be to the Lord.

What stronghold has stood against you? The bible commands you to pull it down. You are a breath away from your miracle. God bless you.

AWAKE AT MIDNIGHT/ PRAYING AT MIDNIGHT

Praying at midnight can be a time of great success to the prayers of a born again person. Which hour is midnight? This does not necessarily means exactly at 0000 hrs (though it can also mean so,), but that time of the night when a new day is being ushered in. this can range from some minutes before 0000hrs to 2:00 am. This time is crucial for a prayer warrior. I give credit to Elisha Goodman who has written extensively on this subject, (maybe you should have a look at his site). Consider the verses below:

Ex 11:4  And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:

Ex 12:29  And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. {dungeon: Heb. house of the pit}

Jg 16:3 And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron. {bar…: Heb. with the bar}

Ru 3:8 And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet. {turned: or, took hold on}

1Ki 3:20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thine handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

Job 34:20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand. {the mighty…: Heb. they shall take away the mighty}

Ps 119:62  At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

Mt 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

Mr 13:35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:

Lu 11:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;

Ac 16:25  And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

From the above we can deduce the following:

  • God visits his people at such a time, as the gates of the new day are opening.
  • He comes to bring blessings to his people and destruction to his enemies. The enemy knows about this hour and so he will come to bring destruction.
  • If you fall asleep (1 Kings 3:20), the enemy will exchange your blessing at such a time, remember Jesus taught his disciples that the enemy comes to plant evil while they are sleeping.
  • It is a time to worship the Lord. It is a great sacrifice to worship the Lord at such a time, when your body demands sleep. This is the time David would wake up to praise the Lord
  • It is the time gates are opened for blessings and closed afterwards that you may not acces your blessings, like it happened to the maids. It is also the time to take control the gates of your enemies (Gen 24:60) as Samson did. You can lose great blessings at such a time.
  • Intense worship at such a time opens your prison gates, as it happened to Paul and Silas.

Arise o watchman; take note of your time of blessings and spiritual victory. The good thing about praying at such a time is that you are able to frustrate the plans of the enemy before he settles to plan evil concerning you in the new day. You can also speak blessing to your morning and your day. At such a time you also posses the gates of your blessings and appropriate them upon your life and the community you stand for.midnight
